I am! Since high school, I’ve had a strong interest in Japan’s culture, language, and people. Once I got to university, I put my enthusiasm to good use and enrolled in Japanese classes. It was thrilling, finally learning to speak and write the language a little.
I was so excited by the prospect of writing as many things as I could in Japanese that I asked my sensei about how I would write my name in kanji. She took my request, ran away with it, and did the class one better. She figured out everyone’s given and family names in kanji—and gifted us with Japanese names!
I chose the elements of my Japanese name, Mayumi, and my astrological glyph, Aquarius, to represent my work through the aspects of who I am. I have a deep passion for all the activities I put my time towards, whether my work or one of my many hobbies. As a big-picture thinker, I can see connections in a way that eludes others, helping me find the best solution in reaching our goal.
Fun fact: The calligraphy in the logo is the actual writing of my teacher, Ishimaru Sensei.
